Launch of Strong Cities Network to Strengthen Community Resilience Against Violent Extremism

Cities are vital partners in international efforts to build social cohesion and resilience to violent extremism.  Local communities and authorities are the most credible and persuasive voices to challenge violent extremism in all of its forms and manifestations in their local contexts.  While many cities and local authorities are developing innovative responses to address this challenge, no systematic efforts are in place to share experiences, pool resources and build a community of cities to inspire local action on a global scale.

“The Strong Cities Network will serve as a vital tool to strengthen capacity-building and improve collaboration,” said Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch.  “As we continue to counter a range of domestic and global terror threats, this innovative platform will enable cities to learn from one another, to develop best practices and to build social cohesion and community resilience here at home and around the world.”

The Strong Cities Network (SCN)  – which launches September 29th at the United Nations – will empower municipal bodies to fill this gap while working with civil society and safeguarding the rights of local citizens and communities.

The SCN will strengthen strategic planning and practices to address violent extremism in all its forms by fostering collaboration among cities, municipalities and other sub-national authorities.

“To counter violent extremism we need determined action at all levels of governance,” said Governing Mayor Stian Berger Røsland of Oslo while commenting on their participation in the SCN.  “To succeed, we must coordinate our efforts and cooperate across borders.  The Strong Cities Network will enable cities across the globe pool our resources, knowledge and best practices together and thus leave us standing stronger in the fight against one of the greatest threats to modern society.”

The SCN will connect cities, city-level practitioners and the communities they represent through a series of workshops, trainings and sustained city partnerships.  Network participants will also contribute to and benefit from an online repository of municipal-level good practices and web-based training modules and will be eligible for grants supporting innovative, local initiatives and strategies that will contribute to building social cohesion and resilience to violent extremism.

The SCN will include an International Steering Committee of approximately 25 cities and other sub-national entities from different regions that will provide the SCN with its strategic direction.  The SCN will also convene an International Advisory Board, which includes representatives from relevant city-focused networks, to help ensure SCN builds upon their work.  It will be run by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a leading international “think-and-do” tank with a long-standing track record of working to prevent violent extremism:

“The SCN provides a unique new opportunity to apply our collective lessons in preventing violent extremism in support of local communities and authorities around the world”, said CEO Sasha Havlicek of ISD.  “We look forward to developing this international platform for joint innovation to impact this pressing challenge.”

“It is with great conviction that Montréal has agreed to join the Strong Cities Network founders,” said the Honorable Mayor Denis Coderre of Montreal.  “This global network is designed to build on community-based approaches to address violent extremism, promote openness and vigilance and expand upon local initiatives like Montréal’s Mayors’ International Observatory on Living Together.  I am delighted that through the Strong Cities Network, the City of Montréal will more actively share information and best practices with a global network of leaders on critical issues facing our communities.”

The Strong Cities Network will launch on Sept. 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT, following the LeadersSummit on Countering ISIL and Violent ExtremismWelcoming remarks will be offered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City, who will also introduce a Keynote address by U.S. Attorney General Lynch.

Following this event, the Strong Cities International Steering Committee, consisting of approximately 25 mayors and other leaders from cities and other sub-national entities from around the globe, will hold its inaugural meeting on Sept. 30, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Does anyone know what's going on?
Anyone?
If the government does nothing, it's corrupt.
If the government does something, it's corrupt.

If the government allow the police to oppress and kill the people and become militarized, it's corrupt.

If the government steps in and makes any rules to interfere with the militarization of the police or to take over or investigate corruption in a city, town, or state, then it's corrupt.

These posts can have two sides, and people only read one, and this is meant to incite fear, and anger, the very energies they need to harness from you as a group.

One angry or afraid man makes no blip in their radar.
They need the collective to get together, organize and as a group have fear and anger.

Monster's Inc, anyone? Fear was how they got the power for their city.
Kids can comprehend this, and grown ups keep feeding the beast, and teaching their children to do the same.
Children are born knowing nothing about us and them, and this and that, and better or worse, and hate them, and like them, we teach them these polarities, and because they love us, they fall right into line with what we tainted their pure souls with.

If all pure souls were not tainted by this nonsense, they would look at each other and have no opinion about anything, no hate, no dislike, no division, no us and them.

Back to this. The Department of Justice is going after individual accountability.
Dig into their site, locate the memo, and start telling on these corrupt people.

Stop being your own enemy, hating every change that happens.
To go to republic, something has to change.
To get rid of the federal reserve, something has to change.
To get the corruption out of the markets, all the false profits have to go away, ie, something has to change.
To deal with all the easy money printed, it will all come back here, ie higher prices, so something has to change.
Yes, the president said change, and there is change.
Someone will always not like change.
Discern whether you are following the writings of someone not providing full disclosure, and decide if you give your power of thought to people you do not know why they want you to 'think a certain way'.

Nice comment. What are you talking about? I read the whole thing and I still don't know what you're suggesting. To begin with, the government is corrupt, period. Not "if" they do something, or "if" they don't. The government is corrupt. They are not a legitimate government, they are an unconstitutional corporation. I don't think you understand that. You mentioned fear and anger, the government actively promotes fear and anger, racism and hatred. You know, divide and conquer. Like the election system, Democrats or Republicans, Gambino's or Genovese's. Conservatives or liberals. You said we were promised "change, and there is change." Like a child who's told to change his pants and comes out with dirty pants, or ones with worn-out knees. Obama and his administration are destroyers, not builders. Congress is just as bad for letting him continue. They are all bought and paid for by the lobbyists, or threatened, or blackmailed, and no longer do the job they were elected to do. The Supreme Court is also corrupt. They no longer abide by the Constitution, or the bible they swore their oath on. Teaching the children also falls under the purview of the government. Parents are slowly losing the right to raise their own children. They spend 40 hours a week in a government indoctrination center, and probably less being trained by their parents. Especially today, where the government has fixed it so every parent has to work, except illegal immigrants and others on the welfare dole. Yep, it's a messed-up country and getting worse.

Nice comment,

And your first hand knowledge of all you mention is what?
The internet? Someone who posted this nonsense so you can hole up in your home and wait for the 'danger' to come knocking on your door?
Are you registered with the not legitimate government?
When asked are you a US Citizen, do you proudly check the 'yes' box?
Then you are not a legitimate Citizen of the united States.
Pointing at the speck and being the plank.
Why would you care about the election system unless you have concerns that your vote doesn't count or that you are selecting people who do not listen to you.

I have yet to hear a debate where the question is, do you represent the people who voted for you? Obama is the best thing that happened to that government. Him holding office has woke up a lot of people who did not see, and did not care, and being illegitimate for 8 years in an illegitimate government literally makes the entire system null and void for 8 years. No one else has done that? You should thank the man for tearing up the system that was controlling you, but no, you have other issues for him tearing it up.
The Supreme Court rules for corporations, and if you don't know that, why are you responding to me? I need responses from people who know things, who have stepped outside the matrix and done things and see what happens, the people who have the same comprehension Neo had when the bullets came and he said 'No' and could see the fraud. Someone with first hand knowledge of what's going on.
I'm sure someone not knowing what's going on and seeing Neo and Agent Smith in the last fight scene would be complaining about all the destroyed buildings and broken glass, and the torn up roads, and have no clue the real battle that was going on, only the change they see that they consider destructive to their sense of being.

My creations went through the government indoctrination, and they got additional instructions from me. Had their brain been so small to hold one piece of info I guess they'd be government trained, but having a brain with the capacity to learn many things including multiple languages, they know both sides of the creation, the consent to be governed and the self governed.
I do not live in the same paradigm you do. My words mean something and cause action from People who know I am not governed by their system of control.
You consent, so you speak in terms of defeat and 'they are soooo corrupt'.
I do not consent, so my communication is more direct, and you just may not be able to understand it, because you've never been where I've been, or done what I do.
And I am not with war, I do things as if these people are my equal. I have no need to overpower them, just as I do not let them overpower me.
