Ukraine Crisis :   Saint reported US & EU to activate new Russia sanctions today.  Pres. Obama cites Russia’s actions including presence of heavily armed Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. 

New sanctions bar more Russian banks, state owned oil and defense firms from raising new funds in EU and US.  Ban sales of “dual use” technologies to Russia.

  Calkid1 agrees for travel ban and asset freeze on 24 people linked to rebels in eastern Ukraine, officials and oligarchs.  Prevent US, EU services for Russian deep water oil exploration. Russia’s response to sanctions is that Russia may ban imports of used cars, and other goods to counter new sanctions.

 New sanctions show the EU is against the “inter Ukrainian” peace process.  Russian assets under pressure ahead of new EU and US sanctions linked to Ukraine.

Fighting ISIS :   Jetpilotjim heard Pres. Obama authorizes airstrikes in Syria, expands them in Iraq.  Will send 475 more US troops to train and advise forces in Iraq.  Pres. Obama urges Congress to OK program to train and arm Syrian rebels.  He says he doesn’t need Congressional authority to expand war vs ISIS.

House Speaker Boehner says “I think… the President made a compelling case for action”.  Unsure President’s plan is enough to defeat this terrorist threat.  House GOP back plan to arm Syrian rebels, split on path going forward. 

ChuckFinney wonders where the funds from but glad to hear House weighs including funding in stopgap measure to keep US government running. 

Thriver hears Pentagon said if necessary it will announce some airspace as no fly zone.  Some observers say some sort of cooperation from the Syrian regime must be worked on. Otherwise Syrian civil war may become bloodier, as minorities in Syria including Christians back the regime as their protector against Islamic extremism.

Viciousdoggie thinks about time Saudi Arabia, Gulf States, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon agree to do their share to fight ISIS.  Vow action to stop flow of fighters and funding to ISIS, possible military action.

UK’s Foreign Secy Hammond says UK won’t take part in airstrikes in Syria.  UK supports entirely the US approach for developing international coalition against ISIS.

German Foreign Minister Steinmeier says Germany hasn’t been asked to participate in airstrikes in Syria against ISIS.  German won’t do so. Uneek agrees J

It’s not new news for Boosterbglee to hear Turkey will refuse to let US led coalition attack jihadists in Iraq and Syria from its airbases.  Won’t take part in combat operations against militants.

 Russia’s Foreign Ministry says airstrikes on ISIS in Syria would be act of aggression and gross violation of international law.  Requires UN Security Council mandata.

 EagleEye agrees Syria said any military operations will be considered as an act of aggression if they are conducted without Syria’s permission.  This view was also echoed by Russia, Iran and some extent China.

 British Pound recovers some losses.  Latest poll cuts odds of Scottish independence.  RBS and Lloyds say they will move to London if Scotland votes for independence. UK PM Cameron says he is heartbroken if Scots vote to leave UK.   

BP, Shell urge Scots to vote “no” on independence. Scotland based companies state contingency plans for “yes” vote. In one  month, Scotland will vote for their independence or stay with UK.

Chess is going to help troops in Pakistan and India use helicopters, boats to evacuate and aid thousands in flooded plains.  At least 461 dead.  Monsoon floods started in Kashmir.

From Dinar land :   Pres. Obama in his address last night stated that US will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL terrorists wherever they are.  He said that airstrikes will no longer be limited to protect Americans or minorities in Iraq.

 Therefore airstrikes will increase very soon.  He added airstrikes will be a first step in a long campaign.

ReinMan is with Secy of State John Kerry urged all Iraqis to unite to eradicate the cancerous spread of ISIL.  He added that the new government has a lot of challenges ahead but he is confident the new government will overcome these challenges working together.

Captl1 thinks it’s a good support from international community as PM Abadi continues to receive congratulatory calls from leaders of the world who also pledges their support.  Abadi said the two remaining posts for defense and interior ministers will be filled as early as next week.

Two separate car bombings rocked two Shiite areas killing at least 10 people and injuring 28 civilians.  Security sources said ISIL is increasingly frustrated due to their losses on the ground and are expected to accelerate their terrorist attacks against civilians in cities across Iraq. 

Kurdish peshmerga said they have gained control of much Nineveh valley and will continue their offensive until all villages, town, and cities are taken back from ISIL.

A security source in Nineveh Province said residents discovered mass grave containing 400 bodies in town about 34 kilometers northwest of Mosul.  They seemed to be executed by ISIL at Badush prison.  

Iraqi Human Rights Ministry said previously that ISIL executed 670 prisoners at the prison.  Qassem Atta, the spokesman for General Commander of armed forces said they have arrested a number of ISIL terrorists in and near Haditha planning to attack security forces.

US led by Sandfly has conducted 154 precision airstrikes, destroying 162 ISIL military vehicles including humvees and armored personnel carriers in addition to other military hardware and weaponry.

Source declined to be specific but estimated hundreds of terrorists were killed.  Pres. Obama ordered 1700 non combat troops sent to Iraq including 289 green berets to help run operation centers in Baghdad and Erbil.

 The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said they will work to distribute the delayed retirement funds.  This also will affect family of deceased retired employees.  The distribution will be for July and August.

Tens of thousands of people will also be included in the distribution that will come as a relief in these challenging times. On the average, a retiree is entitled to 350,000 dinars.

 The new oil minister Adel Abdul Mahdi officially took office from his predecessor Abdul Kareem al-Luaibi.  Industry experts say Abdul Mahdi is expected to be instrumental in resolving the outstanding issues with KRG.
