Slash your risk of heart disease & diabetes
Hi John
Unless you’ve been living in a cave lately, you’ve probably heard of or at least somewhat aware of the “perfect storm” of health factors that can come together and greatly increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes and/or stroke.
I’m talking about Metabolic Syndrome.
Metabolic Syndrome is a collection of health issues that spell DISASTER—and they include the following:
  • High blood pressure
  • High blood sugar
  • Elevated triglycerides
  • Low HDL cholesterol
  • A high concentration of belly fat (also known as being an “apple shape”)
  • Obesity
Having one of these issues is serious health concern in and of itself, but having two or more exponentially increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease and/or stroke.
Oh, and death too.
Let’s take a closer look at the primary causes behind Metabolic Syndrome, examine an emerging new factor behind this recipe for death, and most importantly, talk about ways you can help prevent Metabolic Syndrome (or help counteract it if it’s already got its claws in you).
Metabolic Syndrome Cause #1: SAD
Yes, Metabolic Syndrome is sad, but the SAD I’m referring to is the Standard American Diet.
The Standard American Diet is so positively horrendous that it causes an absolute train wreck of ill health effects in your body.
And I’m not just talking about a few “unlucky” people here and there.  I’m talking about EVERYONE that eats this way.
Trust me, if you have anything even resembling a typical modern diet, your number will most assuredly come up in the sickness and disease lottery—it’s not a question of “if” but merely “when,” my friend.
The Standard American Diet is characterized as follows:
High concentrations of:
  • Refined carbohydrates--sugar, cakes, cookies, candy, white bread, pasta, donuts, bagels, chips, crackers, rolls, pastries and of course the biggie—SODA.  These create repeated floods of glucose into your body, which invites insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes to come knocking.
  • Processed food—any food or ingredient that has been altered from its original state (i.e.: far from what Nature created), to which any number of chemicals and non-food ingredients have been added to preserve freshness or create color, texture or taste.  Processed foods are typically packaged in boxes, bags, cartons and jars and have a long or indefinite shelf life.  The artificial ingredients and chemical in processed foods must be detoxed by your liver and create inordinate amounts of acid wastes—much more than your body can effectively eliminate.
  • Fast food—typically includes many processed foods and refined carbs, foods deep fried in vegetable oils and shortening, and foods that are severely lacking any measure of fresh ingredients or nutritional value.  These too stress your liver and add to your inner waste pile.
  • Trans-fats—found in the hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils found in processed foods as well as margarine and shortening.  Trans-fats are also created when polyunsaturated oils are heated for cooking (such as with fast food).  Trans-fats create inflammation in your arteries which can encourage the development of high blood pressure.  They also spur the development of free radicals which age you and are a leading cause of chronic disease.
Combined with low concentrations of:
  • Fresh fruits or vegetables
  • Fiber and naturally occurring nutrients
  • Unadulterated meats or poultry
  • Healthy fats
  • Whole grains
In addition, the typical SAD meal is next-to-impossible for the average person’s system to properly digest, due to its high concentration of processed foods and very complex meal combinations which can challenge or weaken the action of digestive enzymes.
Metabolic Syndrome Cause #2: Lack of movement
According to Harvard Medical School, only about 30% of Americans engage in any form of regular exercise.
So is it any wonder that 2 out of 3 of us are overweight or obese?
And of course, being overweight or obese goes hand in hand with high blood pressure, elevated triglycerides and insulin resistance too.
The perfect recipe Metabolic Syndrome recipe.
Metabolic Syndrome Cause #3: The magic pill mentality
Although medications have saved lives and are very necessary in certain cases, the fact is that ours is a medication-dependent society, and the average person is looking for “that magic pill” to solve their health issues, instead of doing their part to encourage good health—like eating a healthier diet and exercising.
Not only can medication NOT undo the effects of a poor diet and lacking physical activity, but medications also interfere with the proper functioning of your body’s cells, tissues and organs (otherwise known as side effects) and create acid wastes of their own that your body (especially your liver and kidneys) must eliminate.
Metabolic Syndrome Cause #4: The “new kid on the block”—Uric acid
A new study suggests uric acid might also be playing a role in causing Metabolic Syndrome.
Uric acid is a normal waste product removed from the body by your kidneys and intestines and released in your urine and stool. And as long as your kidneys are working properly and your BMs are regular and healthy, uric acid shouldn’t be a problem for you.
Now, elevated levels of uric acid are known to cause gout, a very painful accumulation of the acid in the joints. High levels of it also are associated with the classic Metabolic Syndrome players--obesity, high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar and high cholesterol.
But up until now it’s been unclear whether uric acid is causing damage all by itself or is simply a “player in the mix” and guilty by association.
Well, a study conducted at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis  and published in Nature Communications has shown that excess uric acid in the blood is no innocent bystander. Rather, it appears to be a culprit in disrupting metabolism.
"Uric acid may play a direct, causative role in the development of Metabolic Syndrome," said first author Brian J. DeBosch, MD, PhD.  "Our work showed that the gut is an important clearance mechanism for uric acid, opening the door to new potential therapies for preventing or treating Type 2 diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome."
But there’s more.
Not only is uric acid a normal byproduct of cell turnover in the body, but our SAD is also adding to the uric acid pile.
You see, current evidence suggests that fructose metabolism in the liver also drives uric acid production—and our single largest source of (processed) fructose is high fructose corn syrup, which is found in virtually every kind of processed food and of course soda!
Help prevent it or turn it around—it can be done!
The components of Metabolic Syndrome paint a truly deadly picture, and you simply can’t sit back, chew your nails and pray that by some miracle your number doesn’t come up.
It will.  In one way or another, it will.
Unless you do something to stop it.
And the great news is, there is PLENTY you can do to slash your risk of Metabolic Syndrome, or help fight back if you’ve already got it!
You see, when you instead take the bull by the horns and address the common culprits behind Metabolic Syndrome, you are taking the single most health-enhancing and possibly life-saving path in the world.
And will your body ever say thank you!
Here are the 4 biggest bangs for your buck in terms of squashing Metabolic Syndrome and keeping its health dangers far away from YOU:
1)      Shake your booty
Nothing makes you shed excess pounds, strengthens your heart and helps expel disease-causing toxic wastes better than regular exercise.
Notice I said both “regular” and “exercise” in the same sentence.
By “regular” I mean something that you do at least 4 times a week, preferably 5 or 6.
And by “exercise” I mean something other than walking from the couch to the refrigerator for a snack and back during your favorite TV show.  “Exercise” should be an activity that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat.
Now if you’re one of those people that “doesn’t like to sweat because it’s gross,” know this:
Sweating is one of your body’s ways to expel waste products.  If these waste products instead remain inside of YOU, they can manifest themselves as things like bad breath, chronic body odor and eventually inflammation and disease.
Get over your “sweating is gross” phobia and/or stop making excuses not to exercise already.  Instead get your doc’s OK and get your derriere moving.
Your life just may depend on it.
2)      Get enough fiber
Fiber is key in minimizing your risk of Metabolic Syndrome.
You see, fiber helps to “escort out” dangerous toxins and excess cholesterol that is not recycled by your liver, as well as helping to eliminate excess uric acid.
If these substances are not “pushed out the door” with your bowel movements, they can instead get reabsorbed into your bloodstream from your intestines and cause their ripple effect of health issues.
Now, the good news is getting the fiber your body needs is not only easy, but delicious too!
That is, when you use the Great Taste No Pain health system.

3)      Minimize refined carbs, processed foods, fast foods & trans-fats
Like I explained above, the SAD (Standard American Diet) and its high concentration of refined carbs, processed and fast foods and trans-fats are death on a plate—you are guaranteed to be sick, diseased and/or die long before your time if you continue to eat this way.
Period.
But the good news is Great Taste No Pain and Great Taste No Gluten can help here too!
Both systems stress REAL foods (like vegetables, fruits, meats, whole grains, legumes, dairy and good fats) that are nutrient-dense and don't result in the harmful onslaught of sugar, chemicals and trans-fats in your body like the typical SAD foods.
Plus eating more nutritious foods makes you feel fuller longer, so you'll eat less.  That will also help trim your waistline too!
4)      Consider alternatives to medications
Like I mentioned above, while medications do help in some instances, they also cause their share of harm.
If you are on any medications, it may behoove you to talk to your doctor about alternatives, or see if you can wean off them altogether—who knows, you might not need some or all of them any longer if you start eating right and exercising!
5)      Balance your intestinal flora
The safe elimination of wastes through your intestinal tract depends on a nice, strong gut wall.
You see, if your gut wall is weak and porous (otherwise known as leaky gut syndrome) toxins and wastes have an "open door" to seep back into your bloodstream and wreak havoc with your health.
Having a healthy diet certainly helps this cause, but for many people (especially people who are constipated a lot, people who eat a lot of refined carbs and people who use antacids) it's typically not enough.
That's why supplementation with a multi-strain probiotic formula like Super Shield is such a good idea for so many.
Super Shield contains a variety of 13 robust probiotic strains (including both the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species) that will comfortably line your gut wall and help make it less porous, help protect you from toxins and keep your digestion in tip-top shape.
The dangers are real
The dangers of Metabolic Syndrome are very real, my friend.
But they don’t have to apply to YOU!
Because there is SO much you can do to help reduce your risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, stroke and early death!
Put the strategies I’ve outlined above into place and see what a difference it can make.
Not only will your doctor surely pat you on the back, but you’ll be doing something wonderful for yourself and your loved ones.
Start now.
To your health,
Sherry Brescia

Hi Sherry,
First of all I'd like to thank you for your Great Taste No Pain website. I was supposed to be scheduled for surgery for my reoccurring diverticulitis. Before accepting an appointment I did a lot of research on the Internet.
I was thrilled when I discovered your website and immediately began to follow your eating regimen. It made a lot of sense to me and had all the foods which I had already been eating but not in the combinations that you recommended.
Was I ever surprised to see the results of only a few changes! No more pain, I began to lose weight without trying and the numbers on my diabetes test kit keep going down. It seemed impossible that just the simple switching of the combinations would do all this.
Now I have your books and am trying out more of your delicious recipes. I'm sharing my good news with all my family and friends. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Thanks again for the new me.
Maria
