This Nutrient Makes You Smarter

In the classic story, "The Wizard of Oz," Dorothy opens the front door
of her tornado-transported house and enters a whole new world that's completely different from Kansas.

It's a world where scarecrows talk, lions are cowardly and apple trees slap her hand when she tries to pick an apple.
Everything is completely different and nearly unrecognizable.
I have news for you...
The same is true of our food supply!
Because it's not actually "food" any more...
The processing of food to transform it from Nature-made (like grains, fruits and vegetables) to "something-in-a-box" has resulted in so-called food which bears little or no resemblance to what it used to be, and has few or none of its naturally occurring nutrients.
It goes even further back
Our farming practices have played their part in changing the world of our food supply, too.
Failing to rotate crops, bioengineering, use of pesticides and herbicides and now genetic modifications (GMOs) have resulted in produce that is not only less tasty and less nutritious than it was in our grandparents' day, but can be downright dangerous!
For example, there are more than 500 chemical pesticides routinely used in conventional farming, many of which are toxic to our nervous systems, disrupt our endocrine systems and can cause reproductive abnormalities.
Plus, the way our wheat is harvested has resulted in nearly double the amount of gluten than the wheat of just 100 years ago...and we're paying the price with cases of gluten sensitivity blowing through the roof.
And now we're just waiting to see the health price of GMOs. Time will tell exactly what tomatoes spliced with mouse genes will do to our bodies.
What's your beef?
There's yet another area where the playing field has transformed dramatically with scary results...
Our supply of Omega-3 essential fatty acids.
You see, it used to be that animals raised for our food supply would be allowed to graze in fields and pastures, which were natural sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. We, in turn, would get the EFAs when we would eat the meat, milk or eggs from the animals.
The fresh fish caught in the oceans were also a rich natural source of Omega-3 EFAs.
But we're in a whole new world here too, my friend.
Animals are now fed mainly grains which has not only annihilated their Omega-3 EFAs (that they USED TO get from grass) but at the same time has caused the level of Omega-6 EFAs (that they NOW GET from the grains) in their products to skyrocket.
Plus, thanks to polluted waters, many fish now contain dangerous levels of contaminants including PCBs and mercury...so people are understandably avoiding them.
And the resulting lack of Omega-3 EFAs in our diet has spelled serious trouble for young and old alike.
Young people are having "senior moments" now
Although Omega-3 EFAs are probably best known as a natural anti-inflammatory which can help ease joint aches and pains, they also serve a function that's even more vital...
...Brain health!
50-60% of your brain's solid matter is fat--in the form of Omega-3 EFAs.

In a study conducted by Alex Richardson, a senior research fellow at the Centre for Evidence-Based Intervention at Oxford University, 362 healthy 7 to 9 year-olds were split into two groups -- one group received 600 mg of Omega-3 DHA each day and the other a placebo.
After 16 weeks their reading abilities were examined and the group taking daily supplements of Omega-3 DHA showed dramatically improved reading performance for the poorest readers (those in the lowest fifth of the normal range) -- to the extent that they caught up with their peer group!
In addition, parents of the children whose initial reading performance was lowest and who showed improvements reported that they saw an overall improvement in their children's behavior.
