Crohn's
disease usually hits people between the ages of 15 and 35,
with women being affected more than men.
It can
strike anywhere in the GI tract from "Ur-mouth" to
"Ur-anus" but it usually nestles in near the ileocecal valve,
which is where your small intestine meets the large intestine.
In many
ways, it is a mystery. And Big Pharma and likes that.
But in
many ways, it's just another illness with unique symptoms that can be
completely eliminated with just a few very simple tweaks. I've helped
many Crohn's sufferers do this...Without cutting parts of their body out
and without taking drugs that cause more problems and that have actually
killed lots other people.
Yes,
indeed...safe, effective, cheap ways to beat Crohn's.
But
first, let's start with...
The mystery of Crohn's
There
have been many theories about Crohn's and exactly how and why it occurs.
For one,
Crohn's is classified as an autoimmune condition, meaning your
immune system sees normal bacteria or molecules in your intestines as
dangerous invaders and launches an attack.
When
this happens, you rocket to the closest bathroom with inflammation, pain and
diarrhea.
But how
does it start?
Well,
there is a genetic component. Studies have shown that a person with a
first-degree relative with Crohn's is 10 times more likely to develop the
disease.
But
that doesn't explain ALL cases of Crohn's, because there
are a whole lotta people getting it who have NO family history of the
condition.
Not a coincidence
Researchers
have also observed three phenomenon that are frequently seen in people with
Crohn's that pop up WAAAY too often to be dismissed as "just a
coincidence."
They
are:
1- Antibiotic use
2- Imbalanced intestinal flora
3- Being low in Omega-3 essential fatty acids
Here's
the scoop on each:
1. Antibiotics -- the miracle with a dark
side
Prior
to the 1950's, Crohn's was very rare and only seen in cases where there was a
family history of the disease.
That
changed in 1953 when antibiotics were introduced to the world.
Since
that time researchers have observed a parallel rise between the number of
cases of Crohn's and the number of prescriptions for antibiotics.
They
theorize that antibiotic use has caused a surge in the development of
antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which in turn can attack the intestinal
lining and lead to the classic Crohn's inflammation.
That's
not to say that antibiotics haven't truly been a medical miracle and saved
lives too, but sadly they have been prescribed FAR too often, with children
taking them sometimes for YEARS to "prevent" ear infections, as
well as teens and adults using them for acne.
2. Flora imbalance boosts likelihood of
Crohn's
Imbalanced
intestinal flora is common in people with Crohn's.
Without
a healthy population of friendly flora in the intestines to keep them in
check, harmful bacteria can be allowed to proliferate and "eat
away" at the intestinal wall, making it porous and allowing toxins to
seep into the bloodstream.
In
addition, scientists have seen increased numbers of harmful bacteria
species in the flora of people with Crohn's, including E. coli.
3- Mucha too mucha Omega 6's
In an
ideal world, Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids work together in
your body to carry out the healing process.
Omega-6
EFAs stir up inflammation when something happens such as when you sustain
an injury or get bitten by a bug. That sounds your body's alarm to direct
the appropriate immune cells to the area in need.
Then
once the healing process is underway, Omega-3 EFAs come in and "cool
down" the inflammation.
But we
don't live in an ideal world...especially where our diets are concerned!
You see,
when there are too many Omega-6 EFAs in your diet and not enough Omega-3s,
too much inflammation gets stirred up and it can become chronic.
And our
typical fast food/processed food diets happen to be inundated with
Omega-6's and barely any Omega-3's.
For
people with Crohn's, the classic place for that excess inflammation to
fester is in the intestines.
Here's
proof of this in action:
Scientists
have observed that the intake of Omega-6 essential fatty acids has risen in
Japan with a concurrent decrease in Omega-3 EFAs from fish, as many
people have diverted from their traditional diet into a more westernized,
fast food diet.
At the
same time, there has been marked increases in cases of Crohn's in Japan,
where there were very few before.
Coincidence? Not a chance.
3 Effective strategies -- that are no
mystery!
Even
though Crohn's still largely remains a mystery, one thing that is for
certain is that there are very effective strategies for fighting Crohn's
that can make you feel a WHOLE lot better.
And
they're a whole lot safer than pain pills and steroids!
Here is
a three-pronged approach that can help bring relief to Crohn's sufferers:
1- Reduce stress on your intestines
When you
reduce the stress that your intestines have to deal with, they are far more
likely to stay quiet and peaceful.
And a
great way to keep your intestines stress-free is to eat meals that your
body can efficiently digest!
When
digestion can be accomplished with ease, your wastes can move through the
intestines smoothly like they should--with less chance of constipation,
diarrhea, excessive gas or irritation.
Easy
digestion = happy intestines!
And
eating for great digestion is what I will teach you in the Great Taste No Pain
digestive health system or for gluten-sensitive people, Great Taste No Gluten.
In the Great Taste No Pain
and Great Taste No
Gluten manuals, I'll show you exactly what to do, what to eat
and how to structure your meals so you'll nourish your body, encourage
easy digestion, minimize irritation and feel great after every single meal.
Many
people with Crohn's have reported relief from pain, diarrhea and bleeding
almost immediately after following these instructions...and they're
thrilled beyond belief!
2- Strengthen your gut wall
For
people with Crohn's, it's essential to have a strong gut wall and help keep
harmful bacteria in check.
Step 1
is having a nutritious diet (including vegetables, fruits and whole grains)
to nourish and encourage a healthy friendly flora base. Nothing affects
your gut flora more than your diet.
However,
experts also recommend supplementing with probiotic strains from both the
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria species.
And Super Shield
multi-strain probiotic formula fits the bill for Crohn's sufferers and
ANYONE with a digestive challenge.
Super Shield
contains potent, top-quality strains of both Lactobacillus (which reside in
the small intestine) and Bifidobacteria (that live in the large intestine),
so you're covered from "one end to the other!"
In
addition, the amino acid glutamine has also been shown to help
enhance gut wall strength.
Glutamine is found in
protein-rich foods such as beans, red meat, nuts and fish. Supplements are
also available in health food stores and many pharmacies.
3- Knock down inflammation with fatty
acids
Keeping
inflammation low in the intestines is vital for Crohn's sufferers, and
having efficient digestion (like I described above) is a big help in this
regard.
But
that's not all--because if you still have an imbalance of Omega EFAs in
your system, your inflammation mechanism could be operating in overdrive.
And your
gut could be on fire as a result!
There
needs to be a specific balance between Omega-6's and Omega-3's in your
body. When they're in a ratio of between 3:1 and 5:1, they effectively
control inflammation.
But many
people (including Crohn's sufferers) can have a ratio of at least 10:1,
20:1 or worse.
So it's
essential to help replenish your Omega-3 supply with a good
pharmaceutical-grade fish oil formula like VitalMega-3.
VitalMega-3
is a potent, pharmaceutical-grade fish oil formula that delivers 1,000 mg
of the recommended EPA and DHA essential fatty acids in every daily
2-capsule serving.
Not only
can that help ease intestinal inflammation, but also help ease other aches
and pains as well, and even help lower blood pressure!
Crohn's
disease has some mystery elements to it, for sure...
But
there's nothing mysterious about taking safe, natural, proven measures to
help your body fight it, and quickly feel a whole lot of relief as a
result!

PPS: Here's not one but TWO
people who have relief from Crohn's!
Hi Sherry,
I just wanted to let you know
my 30 year-old son Dave was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in early
February of 2010. I was there when the doctor did his colonoscopy.
My son's case was very
severe--so severe the doctor opted to put Dave on some very toxic drugs
(anti-cancer pills) along with monthly injections in his abdomen at a cost
of $1,300 per injection (which by the way can cause an incurable form of
lymphoma!).
So I began researching and
found your website.
My son has been on your Great Taste No Pain
plan and he is now pain-free and feeling normal again.
My other son Daniel's 18
year-old girlfriend was not so fortunate-- she had part of her intestines
removed 2 years ago and the docs at U of M were planning on yet another
surgery.
I am happy to say with the
plan and probiotic supplement my son's girlfriend has been pain-free for
one week now. She has stopped taking the Remicade too.
I have been passing your
website to anyone I know who has been suffering with gastric problems. We
are all following your plan too.
I believe the plan has saved
my son and my other son's girlfriend's lives. You are correct--it is all
about money and drugs that do not work and cause other problems.
Thanks,
Renie G.

Good article John. As a man who studies microbiology and immunology, I can say that this is absolutely plausible and in fact, the microbiology/immunology community has suspected a strong correlation between a malfunctioning internal ecosystem and our immune system going maverick for years.
Just to nitpick here, but the term "autoimmune" (attack against self) is incorrect in this instance. The proper term is "hypersensitivity", when the immune system's response against foreign targets goes full blown psychotic and excessive.
